Beginning on Thursday, May 29, “Jazz on Jay” starts its 13th season of presenting live music in “The Circle,” the outdoor space in front of Center City in Schenectady. Live bands will perform from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 pm each Thursday throughout the summer. The rain location is Robb Ally at Proctors. The event is free to the public.

Each year, a variety of live music is presented and supported by 440 State Street, Inc. and the Schenectady Heritage Area. Additional supporters include: Proctors, the Schenectady County Initiative Program, the New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA), the Jay Street Merchants Association, the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation and the Musicians Performance Fund.

Mayor Brian Stratton stated, “The highly anticipated Jazz on Jay concert series heralds the beginning of the summer arts season in Schenectady. Each year the community looks forward to the exciting and talented musicians that perform downtown during Thursday’s lunchtime. Schenectady is proud to host this fine event.”

440 State Street Board President, Peggy King, stated “Our goal is to draw people to the Arts and Entertainment District in downtown Schenectady, the area surrounding Proctors and City Hall, by providing activities and events that promote the Arts. We appreciate everyone’s participation, support and cooperation.”

Area restaurants and shops are open for lunch, refreshments and shopping. Although some seating is provided, music listeners are encouraged to bring their own chairs and to sit and relax while they are enjoying the music of the day.
