Schenectady, N.Y., June 19, 2009 -- Metroplex today announced that Prize Construction has withdrawn from the Silver Diner renovation project.
No Metroplex funds were expended on the project.
Prize Construction planned to convert the former rail car diner into office space. An agreement with Prize Construction to rehab the former diner was announced in June of 2008.
Other than placing support beams at the structure no renovation work was underway at the former diner located on Erie Boulevard.
The building is in very poor condition. The City has struggled to find a positive outcome for the diner which has been vacant for more than many years.
Metroplex today is listing the diner for sale on Craigs List and other websites.
If a new owner cannot be found, Metroplex and the City have been in contact with a group who would salvage key parts of the diner for a museum being developed in Duanesburg.
Anyone interested in the Diner which is still owned by the City of Schenectady should contact Metroplex at 377-1109.
